Women

Davidene Humphreys, Women's Ministry Coordinator

Ministries to Women, through Women

Mission Statement:

"With the leadership of the Holy Spirit, we will give encouragement to women to grow into an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, that results in maturing women who are equipped to impact their world with God's love, for His glory."

2 Peter 3:18, "But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Colossians 2:2, "My purpose is that they may be encouaged in heart and united in love."

“Seeking His Heart” Small Group Bible Studies

Seeking His Heart” is the heartbeat of our Women’s Bible Study series.  Our purpose is to personally grow in spiritual maturity and in our relationship with our Holy God.  To that effect each study combines prayer and fellowship with in-depth study of the Bible. We will have a wide array of choices for this Fall that include all women.  Free child care is provided with studies that are meeting at the church.

"Beth Moore's Study, Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent" -is an in-depth look at 15 Psalms.  Just as a song or poem can express feelings of fear, doubt, hope, and joy, these 15 Psalms model how study participants can voice their own petitions and praises to our God, who is always available and ready to hear us.  Explore the major feasts of Israel and journey with Beth through Psa. 120-134 in this 7 session video study.  Modern day believers can learn much from these treasured Psalms in their journey toward greater intimacy with God.

Weekly we enjoy time to fellowship during brunch, review our homework and share prayer requests.

Tuesday 9:30-11:30am

Leader :  Gail Clanton  721-1209

Free Child Care by Reservation only

"Wednesdays with Beth"-an ongoing video series with Beth Moore touching our hearts like only she can do as a gifted communicator on topics such as The Presence of God, Pressing Past Our Fears, Loving Difficult People and many more hour long sessions.  We will laugh, cry and be comforted as God's truth is revealed through Scripture and Beth's real life experiences.  This study will appeal to the woman who wants a time of growh and fellowhip without any homework.

Hearts & Hands Ministries

A compassionate heart and   gentle serving hands are the main ingredients needed to be a part of these most vital ministries in the body of Christ.

Our Bereavement Luncheon Team is ready on quick notice to help prepare and set up luncheons following funerals for families of our church.  No other team is more needed in time of death.   If you have a heart to serve the Lord by cooking, decorating, or comforting bereaved families,  this ministry needs you.  We may not have a funeral for a year, and we may have three in a row.  But we are faithfully ready when duty calls, usually during the week from 9a.m.—2pm.  Many hands make small work so the more volunteers the merrier on this team.

Our Card Ministry is how we encourage and comfort each other during times of trials, seasons of sickness and sorrow, or to edify our service men and women who are serving abroad.   CHBC began it’s card ministry in 1987.  Since that time we have sent out more than 10,000 cards.  About 30 cards are sent weekly by women who meet a couple of hours on Tuesdays at 10am., and 1pm. They  write and pray over each card sent.  If you’ve ever received one of these precious cards you know what a blessing it is.

We are called to comfort and encourage each other and to build each other up in Christ.  These are two great opportunities to do just that!

Contact Veda Curtis if you’d like to join either one of these teams at 842-3890.

Handle with Prayer Ministries

GOD ANSWERS PRAYER!  That’s why we can truly sing, “Great is Thy Faithfulness!”

Prayer is where we go to find the heart of God and where He touches our hearts with His healing love and power.  It is through these conversations with God that we build our relationships with Him, as well as our trust in Him when we see His loving response.

Several prayer opportunities are offered to women at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church, both internally for our church family and externally in the community.

Cherokee Hills Telephone Prayer Chain & E-mail Prayer Chain are ministries that pray for  members of our own church.  What a joy it is to unite with other women in intercession!  We have seen the Lord do great and mighty things in this ministry!  If this is your interest contact:

Diane Roggy- Phone Prayer Chain at 826-6044.

Linda Sageser:  Email Prayer Chain at chbcprays@cox.net

Deaconess Hospital Healing Touch Prayer Team is an outreach ministry.  Have you ever thought about being a Chaplain?  This is your chance!  If you can devote 3 to 4 hours a week you can serve as a Volunteer Chaplain at Deaconess Hospital.  Training is provided.  You will have opportunity to share Christ with those that are hurting and be a part of a wonderful group called “His Healing Touch Team.”     For more information call: Karen Ford, 943-7482.

Put Feet to Faith…

Nothing activates one’s own faith more than sharing it with others.  When Jesus said, “It  is better to give than to receive,” He hinted of the manifold blessings in store for the servant giver. This is after all, the law of Christ’s Love.

CHBC provides several ways to serve our community in Jesus’ Name for His glorification. We also allow our members to introduce new ministries to our attention for corporate participation.  Here are some of the community volunteering opportunities we have established...

Clothing Exchange:  This is a fun way to clean your old wardrobe and swap for a new one for the whole family—absolutely free!  On Friday, Oct. 24th, we will set-up from 1:00, in the Activity Center.  Bring nicely laundered clothing, shoes, accessories, children's toys, baby gear, etc.   You don't have to bring anything in order to take stuff!  On Sat., Oct. 25th, the church family will swap from 9-10am then Angel Food guests will come in and help themselves.  At noon all leftovers are donated to various charities.   Contact:  Ginny Little  722-6123

Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets: We have church wide food drives to fill festive holiday baskets for our own families in need as well as those in the community. We welcome your name submissions to Mark Stapp.

Baptist Mission Food Pantry: During the month of March each year we coordinate a food drive to help supply the downtown mission that feeds the homeless.

Hope Pregnancy Center: Changing hearts and saving lives is our purpose. (see article)

Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets Filled with Love

Each year throughout the months of November and December our sisters in Christ coordinate a church wide food drive to fill festive holiday Thanksgiving and  Christmas Baskets  to bring comfort and joy to our family members in need in this congregation as well as outside our church.

If you or a family you know would benefit from this gift in the name of our Lord, please contact Mark Stapp, our associate pastor at the church. All names will remain anonymous and special arrangements will be made to either pick up baskets or have them delivered.

Our November Basket Drive will begin Nov 4– 18th.  Watch for the boxes in the hallways, or your Sunday School may fill a couple of baskets using the inventory sheet provided.  More info on that later.

The Christmas Basket Drive will use the same format and run from   Dec. 2– 16.

Be watching your bulletins for more details!

Hope Pregnancy Center Impacts Local Lives

If you ever wanted to bring light and hope into to a dark world right in your own back yard, the Hope Pregnancy Center is the place to do just that!   Whether you’re helping a young, scared teenager determine if she’s pregnant, or trying to gently reason with a frightened, confused abortion-minded client who sees no other way out of her dilemma, or helping teach and support a single mom or young couple to best prepare for their baby’s arrival through the center’s Earn While You Learn Program, God is speaking to hearts and minds through His people in this ripe mission field.

There is a great need for Christian peer counselors at the center, located on N. May, just south of Hefner Road.  We need compassionate godly women who will adopt one half day a week, (either morning or afternoon), to help lead these young lives to Christ and wholesome living.  Each peer counselor receives training and mentoring.  This ministry is supported by the Baptist Children’s Home and the facility is clean, pretty and safe—and most importantly conveniently located right here in our own community!

We also need hands-on support making baby bags, stocking the Mommy Store, cleaning clothes and donated baby equipment, along with assembling cribs—things that men could help with too.  Plus there’s the ongoing   the need for tangible and financial donations along with gently worn maternity clothes.

This summer our church generously filled “Hope Chests” with baby clothes and diapers which greatly helped keeping the Mommy Store supplied. YES!

To find out more how you can be a part of this impact ministry, call Penny Stephenson at 722-7107, or Peggy Kennedy, Hope Center Director, at 755-5973.  We invite you to take a tour any day Monday thru Friday 9-4, or Saturday, 9-noon.

Building Bonds through Special Events

Special Events” are those occasions set apart when we gather together as women, regardless of occupation or age, to enjoy fun fellowship, a relaxing escape, and experience worship, prayer, and spiritual growth.   Of course all of this is centered around delicious foods, great entertainment, games, and giggles and …did I mention delicious foods?  Each Special Event is open to bring girl friends and family, to nestle in the bonds of our love and sharing.   As you know when women get together we end up laughing, joking, crying, singing, praying, inspiring and supporting each other.   Plus we eat lots of chocolate!   But hey, that’s the point!

Don’t miss out on the fun in store this year, grab a pen and

Mark your calendars for these special  events ...                                                                1.) Women's Movie Night  on Nov. 7 we will meet together for fun, fellowship and a movie                                    2.) Country Christmas Luncheon--One of our favorite gatherings is our annual Christmas luncheon.   This year it will be on Dec. 6th.  (See article on last page for full details.)

3.) Spring Fling is another grand occasion for our ladies and it’s pretty much just like it sounds. This year it’s  called, “Daughters of the King” and will take place on March 7th.    This means Daughters of all ages…from preschool to old school, for we are all sisters in Christ and Daughters of the King.

4.) Our annual Ladies Retreat will take place on April 3-4th at Falls Creek.  We’ve attended this special getaway for the past three years, and our ladies love it!  With the new indoor facilities at Falls Creek, we will enjoy plush surroundings regardless of the weather!

“A Country Christmas”  - Christmas Event  Dec.6th

One of the most anticipated women’s events of the year is our annual “Christmas Light” or Tea or Brunch or Dinner.  All have had one thing in common—a strong purpose to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ among ourselves and those we care about. That’s why we also invite our family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. There are still many opportunities to be involved by helping with the dinner, setting up, donating door prizes or scholarships, etc..  Contact Renee Weber  440-0296

 A Word from Davidene

We have a wonderful opportunity called “Heart to Heart: Mentoring for Today’s Mom”. I am personally very excited to see this come to fruition.  Facts you probably want to know:

v            “Heart To Heart” will meet on Sunday evenings for six consecutive weeks

v            Childcare will be provided

v            There will be 30 min. to 1 hour mandatory preparation time for each week.

v            Disciplined commitment to attendance will be expected for the six weeks.

Each week the “Cooking Mom” will teach us as we cook a meal together, after which a “Teaching Mom” will bring spiritual teaching about mothering, being a wife, keeping an organized house, having emotional control of ourselves and our home, coping with stress, or some other relevant topic. We will then enjoy dining on our meal with time for discussion and questions.

Mentor Moms will be available to the younger Moms during the week as their needs arise for advice or just a listening ear.

Doesn’t this sound exciting? Please pray about whether God would want you to be one of these women.

Devotedly,

Davidene

P.S.  Our first round of "Heart to Heart" was a tremendous success!  Our next one will begin in September.  Stay tuned for details in the future.
