Why is membership so important?
Isn’t it simply enough to call oneself a Christian and to attend services?
There are several reasons why we believe a formal membership is important.
First , we believe the concept of membership is biblical. The church is called a family in the bible. The term "one another" is used over 50 times in the New Testament. Believers clearly identified themselves with a specific local body and were challenged to become devoted participants.
Second , a formal membership helps to identify who the church family is. This identification is valuable to the leaders of the church as they seek to fulfill their God-given task of leading and ministering to the family. It also identifies those who have committed to the vision and purposes of the church.
Third , it benefits the individual making the membership commitment. Spiritual growth takes place within the context of healthy, loving relationships with other Christians. Membership can be a significant and defining moment in one’s lifelong discipleship journey.
